Trinseo is a global materials company, focusing particularly on the manufacture of plastics, latex, and synthetic rubber. Trinseo was part of the Dow Chemical Company until Dow grouped several of its businesses for potential sale in 2009
Trinseo’s TPE and TPU development & manufacturing center has been a pioneer in the world of plastic compound production since its founding in 1956, by Sergio Brunetti in Bassano del Grappa, in the Northern Italian hills not far from the Dolomite Mountains. Initially called Applicazioni Plastiche Industriali (API), it is located in a strategic position at the heart of an area with a strong heritage in providing materials for clothing and footwear, close to the commercial hub of Venice.
This meant API benefited from a wealth of knowledge which helped its intensive research and development efforts.
Trinseo acquired API in 2017, already a worldwide leader in the development and production of thermoplastic elastomeric compounds and bioplastics.
Traditional bio-based plastics are derived to a varying degree from renewable biomass sources, including cornstarch, sugarcane, sugar beet, cellulose and vegetable oils. Our bioplastics portfolio includes advanced bio-based TPE and TPU polymers and compounds that are used in a wide range of applications and can contribute to reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions as compared to fossil-based plastics
