How do we make Toraphene? We have a novel proprietary method for making the only material that has all the properties we need for a genuine plastic alternative.
Toraphene is the unique combination of naturally compostable biopolymers reinforced by the world’s strongest material, graphene.
NATURAL POLYMERS
Toraphene’s first ingredient is natural polymers like starch and algae. These are completely natural, compostable, and non-polluting. Unlike the synthetic polymers used to make conventional plastics.
COMPOSTABLE PELLETS
The natural polymers are made into compostable biopolymer pellets. These can be made into fully ocean-compostable packaging. But packaging made from biopolymers alone will not be strong enough or heat-resistant enough or impermeable enough to actually replace plastics.
GRAPHENE
To mitigate the shortcomings of these compostable biopolymers, we reinforce them with graphene, the world’s strongest material at an atomic level. By adding graphene, we get a compostable material that has the functional properties to replace plastics. This is what Toraphene™ is: natural biopolymers reinforced with graphene.
Graphene is just carbon, one of the fundamental building blocks of life, arranged in the strongest pattern in nature: the hexagon. This is the secret ingredient that makes Toraphene so strong.
REPLACING PLASTICS
Natural polymers alone are not strong enough, nor impermeable enough to truly compete with plastics.
But Toraphene uniquely embeds graphene platelets in the natural polymers thereby solving both these problems without compromising the compostability of the material.
