Description

Curran®, a material developed from the extraction of nanocellulose fibres of root vegetables, primarily from sugar beet pulp, which is a by-product of the sugar industry. Curran® offers exceptional mechanical and rheological properties for numerous applications, such as paints and coatings, inks, personal care, home care, paper, food, concrete, drilling fluids, composites and other potential applications.

Microfibrillated cellulose based on waste streams of root vegetables.
At CelluComp we have discovered the exceptional opportunities offered by materials produced from non-hydrocarbon feed-stocks.

Revolutionary Technology: Vegetables used for high-performance materials
CelluComp has invented a proprietary process that is unique in allowing the properties of cellulose nanofibers (CNF) to be fully utilised. Curran® fibres are strong, stiff and light; properties which allow the production of composites with performance characteristics comparable to those based on conventional carbon fibre technology. Bio-composites based on Curran® can be based on a variety of conventional resins such as epoxy, polyurethane and polyester. The platelet structure of Curran® fibres also makes them effective rheology modifiers in end uses such as paints & coatings, concrete, drilling fluids, cosmetics, personal care and home care products. The same platelet structure provides impressive reinforcing effects in paints & coatings, concrete and some personal care products. Curran® is compatible in a variety of common water based polymer systems such as epoxies, acrylics and polyurethanes.

Curran® CV5000 Granules
Curran® granules are produced from the slurry material by removal of water. Granules are free-flowing and dust free, with a solids level of approx. 20%. Granules are the most popular form for use in paints & coatings and are convenient for transport, storage and use. Dispersion into aqueous systems is readily achieved using conventional industry mixing equipment.

Other Products
Outside the conventional CV5000 product, CelluComp is cooking up some new ideas in its labs. Ideas include powder products with other rheological properties, some products suited for personal care and food and other ideas for composites such as sheets and threads. We even have some thoughts on how Curran can be used for medical purposes. Stay tuned as we take these great ideas to the market.

Products
Although we are working on many product options for the future, our principle product is a range of materials under the name Curran®. Curran® has a unique set of features and benefits that make it a valuable option for many applications. Some key features of Curran® are that it is light, strong, can form a film, provides sheer-thinning viscosity, has good suspension properties, is stable regardless of pH. It can be used as a composite in its own right or as an additive for many water-based formulations.

Applications
The CelluComp team is working on incorporating Curran® into many different applications. We are not in a position to disclose ALL the work that is going on in our labs but we can tell you that we are actively pursuing many different opportunities for our product, Curran®. Outside our existing commercial activity in paints & coatings , we are active in personal care, home care, paper, food, concrete, drilling fluids, composites and other potential applications.
