Intelligent plastics, naturally.

Biome Bioplastics is one of the UK’s leading developers of intelligent, natural plastics. Our mission is to produce bioplastics that can challenge the dominance of oil-based polymers, and ultimately replace them completely.

Our biopolymers are suitable for both short-life and disposable products, as well as long-life applications.

Flexible films

The BiomeEP range offers enhanced print and adhesion characteristics, enabling excellent print quality and lamination at high production speeds. These potato and corn based resins give good strength, flexibility and tear resistance whilst being 100% biodegradable and compostable.
Products
BiomeEP1
BiomeEP1 is a potato-starch based, GM-free resin with enhanced wet-out and print adhesion characteristics that enables fabulous print quality and lamination at high production speeds. BiomeEP1 can be stiffened by blending in BiomeEP2.

BiomeEP2
This corn-starch based polymer can be blended in small quantities with BiomeEP1 to produce a stiffer, stronger film without affecting biodegradability, compostability or printability. We recommend the use of BiomeEP2 with BiomeEP1 for high-speed, full-colour print applications or lamination films.

Certification
The certification of our resins helps fast track the application for certification of the finished product, providing no more than 5% of uncertified materials are added.

Our BiomeEP range is certified to the following thicknesses:

 EP1 EP1 / EP2

EN 13432 and ASTM D6400 180 microns 100 microns (maximum 15% EP2)
Vinçotte OK compost 180 microns 100 microns (maximum 15% EP2)

Key properties
100% biodegradable and compostable according to EN 13432, ASTM D6400 and Vinçotte OK compost standards
Plasticiser-free
Unique ability to blend BiomeEP1 and BiomeEP2 to tailor the properties of the film
15% stronger than other bio-resins
EU and FDA food contact approved
Grease resistant
Suited to applications where high speed printing using water or solvent based inks or equally laminating constructions where adhesive key is important

Processing
Process well on mono and co-ex blown film lines
Temperature profiles during extrusion are typically lower than conventional polymers, providing energy savings for the converter
Printable without any pre-treatment
Colourable with compatible bio-masterbatches
Good sealability
Recyclability: waste can be re-granulated (typically up to 10-15%) and used with virgin material

Sustainability
Start of Life: We aim for the highest possible bio-based content in all of our products and are continually developing our range to increase sustainability credentials.
End of Life: Films made from BiomeEP1 and BiomeEP2 are 100% biodegradable and compostable according to EN 13432, ASTM D6400 and Vincotte OK compost.

Coating :

BiomeEasyFlow is a low-viscosity, GM-free, starch-based material designed for coating to paper, board and film, providing a structure which is both biodegradable and compostable.
Applications
Our BiomeEasyFlow low-viscosity product is perfect for extrusion coating and offers a renewable, biodegradable and compostable alternative to oil-based PE-coatings.
