Natural fiber reinforced plastics and WPC granules
If you want the convenience and design freedom of plastics, but don’t want to do without a natural wood look, the biocomposite Fibrolon® is the ideal solution. It looks like wood, but can be processed like plastic on existing extrusion or injection molding equipment.
Fibrolon® is a fantastic combination of plastic and wood. The high surface quality and defined wood structure give components made of Fibrolon an individual character. It looks like wood and feels like wood, but unlike wood, Fibrolon® can also be processed into complex structures and design components.
In addition to fossil plastics such as polypropylene (PP), biobased and biodegradable plastics also serve as the polymer base. The proportion of renewable raw materials can thus be variably adapted to customer requirements. Fully biobased composites can be realized by combining biobased bioplastics together with natural or wood fibers. In addition, WPC based on biodegradable granules (according to EN 13432) are available.
Products made from the biocomposite Fibrolon® are characterized by low maintenance, resilience and attractiveness
Classic applications for Fibrolon® are in the construction, automotive and furniture industries. In furniture components, they serve in particular as a substitute for tropical woods. They are in no way inferior to conventional counterparts in terms of design and function. On the contrary, their higher moisture resistance compared to wood makes products made of Fibrolon® easier to maintain. At the same time, they offer greater rigidity and a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than non-reinforced plastics. Technical components made of natural fibre reinforced plastics have high stiffnesses and strengths as well as a low density: they are mechanically resilient and at the same time lightweight.
Other applications include close-to-earth applications such as urns or golf tees, which take advantage of the biodegradability of some Fibrolon® grades. In cosmetic applications and accessories, the appealing look and feel of wood combined with the lower maintenance requirements due to the plastic content are particularly appealing.
Wood Plastic Composite Granules and Fiber Composites for the Circular Economy
In addition to wood, other plant fibers such as miscanthus, cork or bamboo are used as reinforcing materials. In order to follow the principle of circular economy and sustainability also in the procurement of our raw materials, we use plant fibers from by-products wherever possible. The wood fibers used come from European softwoods from sustainable forestry and carry the FSC seal. Any waste or by-products can thus be processed into new products.
All raw and reinforcing materials used are of high, consistent quality, which distinguish our Fibrolon® fiber composites and WPC plastics.
