Total Corbion

One World. One Market. One Source. BPX.One

Total Corbion PLA is a global technology leader in Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) and lactide monomers.

PLA is a biobased and biodegradable polymer made from annually renewable resources, offering a reduced carbon footprint versus many traditional plastics. Total Corbion PLA, headquartered in the Netherlands, operates a 75,000 tons per year PLA production facility in Rayong, Thailand and has recently announced the intention to build a second plant in Grandpuits, France. The company is a 50/50 joint venture between TotalEnergies and Corbion.

Total Corbion Luminy® PLA portfolio includes products
in four categories that can be used in various conversion
technologies:

• High heat PLA for demanding applications,
• Standard PLA for general purpose applications,
• Low heat PLA typically used as seal layer,
• PDLA used either as a nucleating agent or
  to create full stereocomplex compounds.

Luminy® neat resins from Total Corbion PLA are compliant with the relevant regulations and standards related to bioplastics:

  • Approved for use in food contact applications in EU (EC No. 10/2011), USA (FDA 21 CFR) and China (GB 9685-2016),
  • Compliant with EN13432 and ASTM D6400 standards for industrial composting,
  • Biobased content of 100% according to EN16785-1 and ASTM D6866,
  • REACH compliant,
  • Reduced carbon footprint (read more in:peer reviewed LCA study),
  • Made from GMO-free crops.

Applications & Solutions
Delivering the right performance in a broad range of markets and applications.

Luminy® PLA is the bioplastic of choice for many brand owners who are looking for a solution to meet their increasingly demanding requirements for sustainability and performance. Our PLA is commercially available, compliant with relevant regulations and can be used in a broad range of applications using various conversion technologies.

Multiple flavors of Luminy® PLA are available: high heat PLA for the most demanding applications, standard PLA for general purpose applications and low heat PLA for specialized applications. Next to being recyclable, it offers additional end-of-life options for applications where biodegradability is preferred.

Luminy®
Luminy® is a range of specially developed high performance PLA polymer resins, which are compliant with the most relevant regulations and requirements related to bioplastics:

High heat PLA for demanding applications

Standard PLA for general purpose applications

Low heat PLA typically used as a seal layer

PDLA used either as a nucleating agent or to create full stereocomplex compounds

Total Corbion PLA has launched the world’s first commercially available chemically recycled bioplastics product. The Luminy® recycled PLA grades boast the same properties, characteristics and regulatory approvals as virgin Luminy® PLA, but are partially made from post-industrial and post-consumer PLA waste. Total Corbion PLA is already receiving and depolymerizing reprocessed PLA waste, which is then purified and polymerized back into commercially available Luminy® rPLA.

The commercial availability of recycled PLA (rPLA) offers brandowners the opportunity to make products from rPLA, with the luxury of having original food contact and other certifications in place. Using rPLA can contribute to meeting the recycled content targets of brand owners.
